White Willow Bark Ext 5:1

The bark of some species of Salix trees has been used for treating inflammatory and arthritis-related conditions since ancient times.

Similar to the natural form of aspirin but actually has additional properties, namely polyphenols and flavonoids, that make it more effective and safer than aspirin.

Reduces pain and inflammation by down regulating the inflammatory mediators TNF-a, NF-KB, COX-2 and release of nitric oxide (NO).

Apoptosis of pro-inflammatory activated macrophages was induced. Extracts include salicin, polyphenols, condensed tannins and flavonoids

Commonly used for arthritis and back pain

Salicin is metabolized in vitro to salicylic acid. The polyphenols are speculated to play a significant role in enhancing its free radical scavenging properties.

Shown to exert anti-proliferative effects and induce apoptosis in a variety of cell lines (colon, stomach, prostate cancer cells).

Decreases the COX-2 mRNA expression but increases the COX-1 mRNA expression, compared to ASA and Diclofenac which both decrease COX-1 and COX-2 expression

Compared to ASA, it was at least as effective in reducing inflammatory exudates and inhibiting leukocytic infiltration as well as preventing the rise of cytokines.

White Willow Bark was more effective than ASA in suppressing leukotrienes, but equally as effective in suppressing prostaglandins

More effective than ASA on COX-2. The extract was more potent than either ASA or celecoxib. It was also superior to both in protecting against oxidative stress.

Significantly raises reduced glutathione levels.

Multiple studies indicate a dose-dependent analgesic effect not inferior to rofecoxib in patients with low back pain

Does not damage the intestinal mucosa, unlike aspirin.

No major impact on blood clotting.

Warning: AVOID in patients with known aspirin allergy.
